Meet Bowen and Ash – our new educators for Farm Discovery programmming!

Ash is a recent graduate of Environmental Studies at UCSC. Her passion for agriculture and soil health began in her hometown of San Juan Capistrano, where she volunteered at the Ecology Center. She later interned and worked as an organic farmer at the Center for Agroecology, where she aided in sustaining the Basic Needs Program at UCSC. She thrives surrounded by soil and the power it holds. Ash is excited to work as an educator at Farm Discovery and share her passion for sustainability and soil science with her community. When not in the soil, you will most likely find her in the forest looking for Amanitas or reading a book beside her pet cat, Juno!

Bowen is a retired teacher who has taught all the grades, kindergarten to 12th grade. She started as an art teacher, then a teacher for newcomer immigrants, then a science teacher, and most recently an elementary teacher in Salinas. She is a professional artist, writer, and storyteller. She is so excited to work at Farm Discovery, because she feels people’s relationship to food can change the world and make it a much better place to live in.
She is a contra dancer and caller. Come on out to the dance floor for a barn dance with her sometime!
