At Farm Discovery, we’re all about sparking curiosity in young minds—whether it’s learning about organic farming, understanding how food nourishes us, or discovering the importance of sustainability. These lessons come to life during one of our favorite times of the year: Farm Camp!
Every summer, we welcome kids ages 5-13 to experience farm life up close. Our goal is simple: create a safe, nurturing space where campers can roam the farm, getting their hands dirty while connecting with the land and animals that help feed us. From freshly picked veggies to farm animals, each day is filled with fun, learning, and a little bit of farm magic. 🌾
Over the course of our 10-week program, campers dive into hands-on activities—whether they’re planting seeds, gathering eggs, or crafting delicious recipes in our farm kitchen. It’s a time for exploration, creativity, and adventure. The best part? Watching the farm come alive with the sounds of laughter and excitement as campers experience the wonders of nature firsthand. 🌻
Cooking with Farm Camp 🍓
Kitchen time is always a fan favorite during Farm Camp—and it’s easy to see why! Each day, our little chefs head out to our 3-acre farm to harvest fresh ingredients that will become the stars of our farm-to-table recipes. From sweet zucchini bread and fresh pico de gallo to all time favorite, strawberry shortcake, campers get hands-on experience with food that’s been grown right on our farm.
Besides the delicious end result, kitchen time is a chance to highlight the importance of organic farming and the joy of cooking with fresh, seasonal ingredients. Under the guidance of our expert staff, campers improve their culinary skills while learning how to work together as a team. And sure, the counters might end up a little messy—but that just makes everything taste even better! After all, what’s a little flour on your face when you’re enjoying the fruits of your labor with your new friends? 🍞
Discovery Garden & Farm Animals 🐐🐔🐄
The Discovery Garden is where the magic happens—where seeds turn into vibrant veggies and teamwork blossoms into new friendships. Whether it’s harvesting fresh summer squash, planting sunflowers, or sowing seeds for the next season’s crops, our campers dive right in, hands (and sometimes faces!) covered in dirt. There’s nothing like the feeling of getting your hands into the soil and watching nature come to life, and we make sure every camper gets a chance to nurture the earth.
An importantly special aspect of our farm is our animals. Our beloved goats, chickens, horses, pig, and cow all play a starring role in our summer camp adventures. From feeding the chickens and goats their breakfast to brushing our retired horses’ manes, our campers learn how to care for and interact with these friendly farm animals. Spending time with our animals is a great way to relax from the day’s activities!
Farm animals and the garden go hand in hand, and each day on the farm gives campers the chance to see how the animals contribute to the farm’s ecosystem. The chickens might provide eggs for our next cooking session, while our cow and pig help keep turn our kitchen scraps into natural fertilizer. It’s a full-circle experience that teaches teamwork, responsibility, and how to take care of animals. 🐄❤️
Explorer’s Path 🌲
During the cooler summer days, we take full advantage of the beautiful scenery at Live Earth Farm. Each week, campers go on two hikes: the Redwood Forest hike and the Lower Farm hike!
The Redwood Forest trail is a great way to work as a team to reach the cool, shady section of the farm. Once there, the world is their oyster—campers can build structures with sticks, journal under the trees, or simply soak in the peaceful forest surroundings. It’s truly one of the most rewarding parts of camp.
The Lower Farm hike is an opportunity to see Live Earth Farm in action. Campers learn about how the farm operates, meet the farmers who care for the land, and even get to harvest a tasty treat or two! It’s a hands-on experience that shows them the hard work that goes into growing the food we eat.
Leadership in Training (LIT) Program 🌟
For teens 13 and up, the LIT program is a great way to build leadership and outdoor education skills. LITs assist staff in guiding campers through farm activities, from animal care to gardening, while also getting to enjoy all the fun of camp.
Teens develop responsibility and teamwork, all while forming strong bonds with campers who look up to them. It’s a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable skills, make lasting memories, and enjoy the outdoors with enthusiastic kids!
