We would love to wish a belated farewell to our first Farm Discovery apprentice, Kirra. Thank you so much, Kirra for all of your hard work and dedication to Farm Discovery. We are so proud to see how far you’ve come and honored to be a part of your journey.
Now Kirra is pursuing her dreams of homesteading through the support of her community connections that she built throughout her experiences here. Lately, she spends her time working for Wild Poppies Olive Oil Company, a local online farm stand, eatlocal.farm, a small homestead farm, and at Bella Mar Horse stables.
Kirra is working towards starting a business with her own piece of land and hopes to share information with others that want to grow and preserve food, as well. Go Kirra! We don’t say goodbye to Kirra, but simply a farewell for now and we can’t wait to see all the places she’ll go.
Moving forward, we are very excited to welcome our new apprentice Leticia!
Leticia is a sociology student at Hartnel, born and raised in the Salinas Valley, the “salad bowl of the world”. Her interest in organic and ecological farming stems from growing up in a region that needs more of these environmentally and socially conscious practices.
She is thrilled to be part of an organization that benefits her local Central Coast community and she is excited to be part of the internship program where she will be able to expand her knowledge of farming while tending to the animals of the farm, seeding, and harvesting crops.
Leticia hopes her background in youth education will help her foster a next generation with an interest in sustainable farming and healthy food while at Farm Discovery and in her future endeavors creating her own environmentally conscious non-profit.
