School Taste Testing

As part of our ongoing outreach initiatives, we’ve initiated a series of taste test visits for students within PVUSD, ALSD, and MPUSD. This past month we began conducting taste test for the youth in our community. Our goal is to get kids to be adventurous, to learn about a good diet, and gain some knowledge about our food cycle. On February 28th, Emily and Stephanie hosted a taste test at Dr. Oscar F. Loya Elementary School in Salinas. We had an impressive turnout of ~600 children stepping up to our ‘taste test booth’. Students sampled farm-fresh watermelon radishes, red radishes, dinosaur kale, and crisp apples during their lunchtime.
“A lot of the kids thought the watermelon radishes would taste like watermelon, so we had to explain that it was based on the look – not the taste!”
Leftovers from the taste test were thoughtfully distributed to a parent meeting for a mini taste test of their own. We are excited by the enthusiasm displayed by students, parents, and school staff. Our team is grateful for the opportunity to partner with these districts. With this outreach, we aim to empower the next generation to make informed, healthy choices that benefit both themselves and their communities.

*PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG TO THE FARM*

We have dogs on the farm, whose purpose is to protect the farm from other animals. For the safety of the children who visit, we ask that you leave your animals at home. There is rarely adequate shade for you to leave your animal in the car while on site.

If you need your service dog to accompany you to our site, please contact us in advance and have your service dog clearly marked. We will do our best to prepare for your animal’s visit and accommodate your needs for a service animal.
