When I first started doing spring field trips I was a nervous mess. I had little confidence that I was able to do this on my own. It was an amazing experience watching kids have fun and learn more about organic farming and how it benefits the community and our environment. During these field trips I would guide them through our special swale hill that is planted with perennial fruits and a series of on-contour trenches called swales. The kids enjoyed learning about organic farming and tasting some of our fruits like strawberry guavas, but what made their smiles light up was meeting our farm animals. They were most excited to pet our two ponies Angel and Star. Every field trip is unique and special to every individual person. I have seen some kids who are super shy and don’t want to be around people, but they find the courage and step out of their comfort zone.
Not only does it make kids smile and laugh, it also makes me excited to teach them about our farm.
