As part of a summer camp project, campers with our CCAC fellows painted a mural to explain the important components of compost. They did a phenomenal job! It’s so colorful and vibrant.
Our CCAC fellows started our three bin compost system where our food waste is collected and an education station during our spring and fall field trips. During the stations, students learn about green waste (nitrogen), brown waste (carbon), microbes, and insects. They also learn about temperature regulation, aeration, and cure time.
To help visualize, our campers painted this mural explaining the compost food web. Here students follow how organic matter goes through the different processes to eventually become usable compost. It’s great for campers to contribute to long term project that they get to come back to visit either through field trips or future camps.
