Every summer feels like a success with all of the smiling faces and awesome projects we make during summer (everything from beeswax candles to homemade pies); but this summer felt especially wonderful, mostly because we had some truly great help on the farm. This summer we hired two lovely women both born and bred in Watsonville. Nancy Vaca-Rivas and Andrea Reyes really shined this summer in ensuring that all children were happy, enjoying themselves, and interacting with the farm safely. They are back in school, but we really hope to see them around the farm again soon!
We also had so many wonderful Leaders-in-Training (15 in total) that led groups of campers to each activity and made sure everyone was enjoying themselves. We are so lucky at Live Earth to have such an amazing space to interact in; even without all the awesome projects and delicious recipes we use during camp, just being here is something unique in its’ own right. Farmer Tom has ensured that much of LEF is left undisturbed, and native ecology still has a place to thrive. Our weekly hike to the redwood grove is always a highlight for campers, especially because we all enjoy our freshly baked zucchini bread as a snack, that we made the day before.
