Supporter Spotlight
Volunteering and performing community service provides essential help for our organization and communities in need, but it can also provide benefits to the volunteers as well. Getting started with volunteering early on is a great way to help others, develop skills, and meet new people.
First and foremost when you are helping others, it makes you feel good. You are making a difference in people’s lives and impacting the world in a positive way. Helping others helps our own mental and physical health by being active, feeling productive while being in service to others creates a feeling of being accomplished. Working on a farm helps us feel useful and also provides a dynamic social network that is based on a common goal of helping the community we belong to.
Volunteer opportunities are a good way to build community, and can also be key in presenting youth with a chance to learn about different types of work while exploring their interests, and discovering new possibilities.
This month, we are happy to highlight a dedicated volunteer for our Produce Delivery Program- Trevor Hutchinson. Trevor has been working delivering produce weekly for us to Holy Cross Pantry since 2019. We checked in with Trevor this month to see what brought him out to the farm.
“I volunteer because our community can only be as good as we make it. The more positive things we put into it, the better our community will be for each of us and our families. Without people putting in volunteer work and giving to our community, greed would be allowed to spoil and move freely into everything. We also set an example for future leaders, the children in our community, whether we know or not, they are watching us and it’s up to us to set the example that makes our community a better place for everyone.
With much community LOVE,
Trevor Hutchison
